About

The 99ers are a punk surf band from the Twin Cities. The members are Steve Shannon (guitars and vocals), Colin Selhurst (drums), and Molly Holley (vocals).

Steve, Colin, and Molly met on a warm summer's day at a cricket match in New York City. Hearing the Ramones played over the PA during the tea break, they noticed that they were the only three people dancing in their seats. They met, harmonized on California Sun, and decided to form a surf-punk band. Now based in St. Paul, Minnesota, their three musical rules are: bang it out, keep it short, & no messing about.

The 99ers are named after the band's favorite dessert - a 99 - which consists of a soft serve ice cream cone with a Cadbury's flake (a British chocolate bar) stuck in it. Stephen (who hails from Liverpool, England) introduced it to the others during a gig in Southport.

Inspirational for the band's work are two Minnesota DJ's - Ron and Jean of KFAI's Radio Rumpus Room (106.7FM & 90.3 FM) - who play the band's music and encourage their activities.

Colin is currently suffering at St. Paul Central High School and supports Crystal Palace FC.
Steve is raising consciousness at the University of St. Thomas and supports Bolton Wanderers FC.
Molly is fighting hegemony at Macalester College and supports peace and justice for all.
